Katy Grannan spent a few years photographing strangers next to a white wall on the streets of L.A. and San Francisco.
The simplicity of the background removes any distraction from the subjects and allows you to focus right on them. Absolutely beautiful. You can see more on the Fraenkel Gallery website.
Apparently real photo assignments do exist on Craigslist! Seattle-based photographer Ryan Matthew Smith answered a posting to photograph food for a cookbook project. That project ended up lasting 3 years and created Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking, a six-volume, 2,400-page set that reveals science-inspired techniques for preparing food.
Smith's images are fantastic and they focus on a completely new way of showcasing food.
