Ford River Rouge Complex

Today we visited the historic Ford River Rouge Complex in Dearborn, MI. We got to see Ford F-150s built on the assembly line and historic footage of 1930s painters Charles Sheleer and Diego Rivera visiting the site. It was the perfect thing to do on a cold winter day.

Detroit Pistons Game

Trish and Tony took us to the the Piston's game last Wednesday. They didn't win, but it was fun to see them try.

Rainy Day Detroit

Today I'm thankful that it is raining instead of snowing. I simply can not wait for spring....

The Heidelberg Project

Since 1986, artist Tyree Guyton has converted abandoned houses on Detroit's Hidelberg Street into an outdoor artwork environment. Despite the thousands of visitors the street receives, the city of Detroit has condemned and demolished two of the project's buildings. Slows Bar BQ

We had a fabulous lunch today at Slows Bar BQ in the Corktown district of Detroit. The restaurant opened in 2005, and got their namesake from the Slow Food Movement. The ribs and brisket we had came from an Amish farm, one of the many ways Slows implements sustainable practices.

Lazy Sunday

I'm trying to be a little productive on this cold, lazy day so I decided to make a delicious Thai Shrimp Bisque from Cooking Light. Buster was so tired today that he let me put glasses on him without too much of a fight.

My Michael Cera Fix

Kevin and I saw Michael Cera's latest film, "Youth in Revolt" tonight and I absolutely loved it. A lot of critics and journalists label Cera as a loser and geek but they have it all wrong, Cera is cooler than all of them. I also thoroughly enjoyed the soundtrack featuring Fatlip and Beulah.

New Year New Detroit?

I hope 2010 is a good year for the city and people of Detroit. Each day this city continues to surprise me. I love passing by this abandoned building that has been transformed into an art piece. It brings a lot of color to a much needed landscape.

Avedon Fashion Photographs 1944-2000

I was so thrilled to see an Avedon exhibit show up here in Detroit. He has been an inspiration of mine since I first picked a copy of Vogue. I absolutely loved the giant photograph of a model with elephants from the 50's. The exhibit also featured his original contact sheets with selections and comments from the editors of HarpersBazaar.
