Michigan Love

I had a fantastic last day in my Detroit office last Friday. My coworkers surprised me with a gift basket filled all things only Michiganders know about. The basket included Better Made chips, Faygo soda, Mexican Town seasoning, Uncle Ray's chips, Sander's fudge, Vernor's ginger ale, Just Baked cupcakes, and a beautiful Detroit Pewabic pottery tile. Say Yes to Michigan!

Babies in a Meadow

Is there anything cuter than babies in a meadow? Last Labor day, I photographed my friend Trish's sister and her family at Indian Springs Park in White Lake, MI. The whole family is pretty stink'n cute.

happy birthday trish!

dear trish, here are 10 reasons why i'm so happy you were born:

1. you are incredibly funny. you have your own catchphrases and gestures that only you can pull off.

2. you taught me how to be a good michigander by exploring all the best places.

3. you love your friends and family and would do anything for them.

4. you always have chewy granola bars, string cheese, and yogurt on hand. you can usually be found trying to feed someone something.

5. you are fantastic around kids and you will be the best mom one day.

6. you give great hugs.

7. you purchased spank rock’s yoyoyoyoyo cd simply because you liked the name. you also rock out to madonna in the early hours of the morning.

8. you never complain, even when you should. even when i’m grumpy towards you for no good reason.

9. you are a crazed foodie that got me to love bbq, bumpy cake, and chicken ’n waffles.

10. you are the most positive person i’ve ever met. you can see the bright side to everything which is a really amazing gift.

Brush Park

Located just blocks away from Ford Field and Comerica Park, Brush Park is a neighborhood filled with beautiful Victorian style homes. My favorite had to be the Ransom Gillis Mansion originally built in 1876. The house has gone through drastic changes through the years and has been documented by photographer Camilo José Vergara as seen here.

Virginia is For...

I've lived in quite a few states over the past few years, but I'm super excited for my next big move to Richmond, VA. My boyfriend is attending graduate school at VCU Brandcenter and I will be joining him in less than two weeks! I'm so looking forward to Southern culture and being so close to Washington D.C.!

James Scott Mansion

The James Scott Mansion is a Richardsonian Romanesque style house built in early twentieth century and destroyed by a fire in the 1970s. If you're in Detroit, it's located in the Cass Corridor at the SE corner of Park and Peterboro.

Deborah Butterfield

I love, love, the work of American sculptor Deborah Butterfield. Her horses are crafted in wood, bronze, and found materials. She's definitely up there in my list of favorite artists.
