High Relief Encaustic Paintings

This week's encaustic workshop was ridiculously fun. We learned how to build up layers of wax on the surface to create unique and colorful textures. You can't really control how the wax will build, so the results are full of surprises.

  1. Fantastic! How do you do these textures?

  2. I used three different colors of encuastic wax for each painting. Then I brushed the wax onto the board in the same direction alternating colors. I kept brushing the wax on until the wax builds up into high reliefs.
